"House of Cards" aka "My dad's view of politics"

Rhiannah and I started watching "House of Cards", mainly because of all the amazing reviews I have heard. I have to say it reminds me a lot of Game of Thrones:

  • Everyone is a horrible, conniving asshole except for that one good guy that gets screwed over. (Check)

  • Tons of political intrigue with every character displaying exceptional foresight that borders on psychic abilities.   (Check)
  • Random sex scenes, especially at the beginning of the series. (Check)

Don't get me wrong, I love Game of Thrones. I just find the similarity between the two shows amusing. Although the 2nd attribute has become rather unbelievable over time. Although the protagonist of the show does make mistakes, I feel as though he is a little too good at planning things out. A little too good at predicting how several different people, with attitudes and dispositions that change on a dime, will react to a conversation.

Thankfully it is not nearly as terrible as the all-time best planner, Michael, from the series "Prison Break". The story revolves around Michael, who breaks into a high security prison to free his innocent brother. I have to admit, Michael did go all out when it comes to planning. I mean, he tattooed the blueprints of the prison on his body (yes this looked as ridiculous as it sounds). Where was I going with this... oh yeah, I like "House of Cards" as well as "Game of Thrones". And if you like one and haven't seen the other, I am betting you would like it. Also "Prison Break" should die a horrible death. Oh and "Lost" can burn with it.

How does this relate to my father? I am glad you asked! This show mirrors my father's views of politicians quite closely. I feel like I am transported into his perceptive reality when I watch this show sometimes. Although, I think to be even more like his views it would need to have much more deceit, maybe even some cold-blooded killing and a few "down with the people!" chants. I love my dad... he just can sometimes get carried away is all. I would like to have at least some faith in our government. I think there is definitely a fair amount of corruption, but there are also the "good guys", like  Peter Russo from the show. That may not be the best example though as he kind of turns into an asshole... but oh well. Maybe, my view is most people enter office trying to do good for the country and end up corrupted by Keven Spacey. I mean, when I think corruption, he is the first person to pop in my head. Fuck that guy.

Overall, the show is great. Give it a look. 9/10 so far, although I am only halfway through the 13 episodes. So far it is intelligent and witty with great acting and flow.

Microsoft Studying was a success (?)

MCSA Studying

Just finished studying with Eryn for out test that we want to some day, maybe, eventually take. MCSA. Another hoop to jump through to try and get a better job. I have to admit, I have learned a lot studying for this exam. Granted, the book had very little to do with that. In fact, the book is so bad that I am actually going to write a scathing Amazon internet review. That's right, take that! I still bought the book anyway, and am still going to spend good money taking your test, but I'll have the last word on this Microsoft.

We managed to kind of cover DNS and DHCP. And I say kind of because I still feel like I am going to fail this test when we inevitably have to take it. The book just gives very little to no examples, so I have nothing to really relate these very abstract concepts to. I mean sure, I know what the hierarchy of a DNS name resolution looks like (kind of), but could I explain it thoroughly to someone else? No. Can I pass the MCSA test which is the ultimate goal here? No. Expectations are not high on my future test success.

Post Uno

Going on a hike today!

Heading out with Eric and Rhiannah to hike Skinner's Butte. I have a lot of other things to do and am not 100% sure I will really enjoy the hike. It is soooo sunny though, hard to really resist at that point.

Rhiannah and I are going to try and do some new projects. In fact we recently signed up for Pinterst. Which actually has a lot of cool ideas for crafting things. Cutting up posters we have to make our apartment feel a little more homey. We have both been so busy that we haven't really felt like making our apartment look nicer. That in combination with our eminent move to <insert place here> has made it seem somewhat futile. I'll try to post ideas that we come up with here, to hopefully inspire the exactly 0 followers I have to not be lazy.

So the point of this blog? I am not sure. I recently confessed to Rhiannah that at various points in my life I have wanted to do something writing-related. Journalism and philosophy always sounded interesting to me. Maybe all that this is currently is my futile attempts to validate that argument. I am mainly writing it, I guess, for a change of pace. Posting various articles, opinions of mine, and life updates. That will be the goal. Sounds like a typical blog, right? Maybe I could make like some cool walk-throughs for games and tech-related information. So here is what I have so far:

  • Technical/Interesting (like how I grouped those together?) articles I have stumbled upon that my Facebook friends like to largely ignore.
  • Rantings I have (hence the title).
  • Wiki-type section?
  • Video-game section?

Not sure I will keep thinking on it, and hopefully actually bother with a second post. My UO blogs blog didn't make it that far either....

Edit: Realized that I can separate these into different blogs. So... even more of a pointless rant.
